Neeraj Chopra Wins the Paris Diamond League Title with an 88.16-Meter Best Throw

Paris Diamond League Results: At Stade Charlety on Saturday, double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra put on a dominant display and won first place with a strong 88.16-meter throw on his first try.

His first throw established the standard for the night and was the only one that was surpassed during the tournament. The initial effort was sufficient to maintain his lead in a very competitive field, even though he committed three fouls in his six attempts. Julian Weber, a former Diamond League champion from Germany and one of Chopra’s most formidable opponents, came closest with a powerful 87.88-meter effort in the opening round.

Weber finished second after failing to beat Chopra’s record despite a steady performance. Luiz Mauricio da Silva of Brazil placed third and set a new South American record with a career-best throw of 86.62 meters in the third round. Chopra had not participated in the Paris Diamond League since 2017, when he was a junior world champion and finished sixth with a throw of 84.67 meters.

The 2025 Diamond League circuit, which will end in a two-day final in Zurich in August, made its eighth stop at the Paris tournament. Chopra won the Potch Invitational in South Africa to start his 2025 campaign with a throw of 84.52 meters. Although Weber’s personal best of 91.06 meters narrowly defeated him, he made news in Doha by breaking the elusive 90-meter barrier for the first time and creating a new Indian national record with an attempt of 90.23 meters.

In the wet, challenging Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland, the competition persisted, with Weber finishing first once more with 86.12 meters to Chopra’s 84.14 meters. But in Paris, Chopra took back the lead and showed everyone why he is still one of the best athletes in the world.
