The average time of nine-inning games sets an MLB record despite efforts to improve the pace of the game

New York-Major League Baseball once again set a record this year with an average time of nine-inning games despite efforts to improve speed.

The average for the regular season of 2021 was 3 hours, 10 minutes, 7 seconds, the commissioner’s office said after the end of the regular season on Sunday.

That was 3:07:46 for the epidemic-short 2020 season and 3:05:35 in 2019.

MLB established a minimum three-batter for relievers in 2020, but the active roster was extended to 28, giving managers more pitching options. The size of the roster has come down to 26 this season before expanding from 1 September to 28. Compared to 40 from September 25 and 1 of the 2019 season.
