Thailand Open 2025: India Finishes with 8 Medals, Deepak and Naman Win Gold

Thailand Open 2025, Indian boxers finished with eight medals, with Deepak and Naman Tanwar taking home gold in their respective categories. Notwithstanding their lack of publicity, the Indian boxers put on an impressive week of competition against formidable foreign opponents.

Deepak defeated Abdurakhimov Javokhir of Uzbekistan 5:0 to take the gold in the 75 kg class, and Naman defeated Han Xuezhen of China 4:1 in the 90 kg final.

Kiran settled for silver after a hard-fought match against Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova, losing 2:3 in the women’s 80 kg final.

Five Indian women boxers Sanju (60 kg), Saneh (70 kg), Tamanna (51 kg), Priya (57 kg), and Lalfakmawii Ralte (80 kg) will return home with bronze medals.

The renowned boxing event, which drew skilled boxers from superpowers like China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and host Thailand, had 19 Indian competitors.

With a decisive victory over Abdurakhimov on Sunday, Deepak began India’s gold medal run. He started out cautiously but started to take charge of the fight halfway through the first round and then dominated the rest of it.

Tanwar’s strategy changed in the 90kg final, as he controlled the opening two rounds and started off aggressively against Han. In the third, Tanwar started to play it safe, but the Chinese came back and were unable to reverse the situation.

Anshul Gill, an Indian boxer, won the semifinal match but was disqualified for a gesture that upset the Uzbekistan coach. After a formal complaint from the coach of the opposing team, Anshul (weighting 90+ kg) was disqualified from winning a medal.

After winning six medals, including one gold, in the World Boxing Cup in Brazil, Indian fighters will be preparing for the second leg in Kazakhstan at the end of this month. Later this year, the World Boxing Cup Finals will take place in New Delhi.
