Dhinidhi Desinghu set a new national mark with a time of 2:02.97 seconds, In the 200-meter freestyle. while in the 200-meter individual medley, Shoan Ganguly also broke the meet record on Monday at the 78th Senior National Aquatic Championship.
At the Kalinga Stadium Indoor Aquatic Centre, Shoan Ganguly broke the national record with a time of 2:04.34 seconds.
After a lackluster performance on Sunday, Dhinidhi persevered and set a new two-year-old meet record with a time of 2:02.97. 2:02.37 is the “B” qualifying time for the World Championships.
After the first 50 meters, the 15-year-old sprinted ahead to take a commanding lead and win handily.
Under the tutelage of his father-turned-coach Surajit Ganguly, Ganguly, who had clocked a subpar 2:09 at the state competition a month prior, put in a lot of training to set a new personal best of 2:04.34.
M.S. Yadesh Babu won the men’s 50-meter breaststroke title with a personal best time of 28.35. Yadesh claimed his first national title, saying, “This is a result of my consistent training.”
Karnataka, which included Rujula S., Latisha Mandaana, Akash Mani, and Tanish George Mathew, won the yellow medal in the 4×100-meter mixed freestyle relay with a new meet record of 3:41.18. Following the disqualification of second-place finisher Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu took home the silver.
With a meet record, Tamil Nadu, which included Pramiti Gnanasekaran, Yadesh, B. Benedicton Rohit, and Deeksha Sivakumar, took first place in the 4×100-meter mixed medley relay.
