India’s Junior Women’s Hockey Team Defeats Belgium

Indian junior women’s hockey team defeated Belgium 2-1 on Tuesday at the Hockey Center of Excellence, Wilrijkse Plein in Antwerp, extending their winning streak on their European trip.

India’s goals came from Lalthantluangi (35′) and Geeta Yadav (50′).

In a hotly contested match, neither team was able to break the goalless draw after the first half. When Lalthantluangi completed a penalty stroke in the 35th minute, India finally took the lead.

In the last quarter, Van Hellemont (48′) gave Belgium the equalizer with a field goal. But India reacted quickly, and two minutes later, Geeta Yadav scored a field goal to put them back ahead.

After then, India put up a fierce fight in the last ten minutes to keep Belgium from equalizing again and win the match.

The Indian junior women’s team will play Belgium for the third and last time on the tour on June 12 after winning back-to-back games.
