Detroit Lions will release DE Tray Flowers, signing the last patriotic route

The patriotic route is done in Detroit.

The Detroit Lions informed defensive end Trey Flowers on Thursday that he would be released next week in a move to reduce the price, a person familiar with the decision told the Free Press.

The move is expected to free up स्पे 12 million in cap space when the 2022 league year begins on Wednesday. Flowers has a स्टर 1.625 million roster bonus guarantee for the March 18 injury.

Flowers, who signed the Lions under the leadership of former general manager Bob Quinn and coach Matt Patricia, was the grandest free-agent and the last of several former New England Patriots to be brought to the city by the two.

Current Lions GM Brad Holmes praised Flowers after the season, calling him the “ultimate glue man” and the “ultimate leader” and saying he has embodied what the organization is looking for in its latest reconstruction.

Holmes declined to comment on Flowers ‘future at the NFL Combine last week, but Flowers’ days in Detroit began to number when he landed on the injured reserve for the second time in December.

Flowers had a huge cap hit of 22 23.2 million in 2022, an extensive history of injuries that limited him to 14 games in the previous two seasons and reduced pass rush production.

Since registering seven sacks in 2019, in his first season in Detroit, Flowers had only 3.5 sacks in 2020-21, when he lost time due to a knee and shoulder injury and a broken arm.

Holmes said in January, “We have the same courage and the same football player. “So when he had to deal with that, it was unfortunate.”

Flowers, one of the Lions’ best runners and the most influential locker room leader, finished as the Lions with 10.5 sacks in 29 games. He earned more than 54 million from the वर्ष 90 million five-year contract he signed in 2019.

Holmes, entering his second year as GM, is in the process of repairing the defense, which was ranked 27th in the allowed points and SAC percentage in last year’s 3-13-1 season.

Five starters – sack-leader Charles Harris, defensive tackle Nick Williams, linebackers Alex Anzalon and Jalen Reeves-Maybin and safety Tracy Walker – will be unrestricted free agents next week and the Lions will be ranked No. 2 in the April draft where they will. Be on the market for defensive playmakers like Aiden Hutchinson of Michigan, Kevin Thibodeaux of Oregon, Jermaine Johnson of Florida or Kyle Hamilton of Notre Dame.

Romeo Okwara, who led the team to 10 sacks in 2020 but lost 13 games last season with a torn Achilles tendon, Austin Bryant and Julian Okwara are the Lions’ top returning edges for 2022.

The Lions entered the fray on Thursday with about $ 26.5 million in cap space, according to the NFL Players Association. The free agency will start on March 16.
