After the final rehabilitation began, Max Scherzer offered Rumble Ponies a luxurious dinner: ‘We ate well’

A long-running tradition in minor league baseball involves a lavish dinner on the tab of the major leagues in the city for rehabilitation.

What will be his final tune-up before returning to the Mets after Max Scherzer tossed 80 pitches for a double-A Binghamton on Wednesday night in Hartford.

So, Scherzer honored that tradition after Wednesday’s game and made it clear to reporters that there were going to be rumble pony splurges on his tabs that night.

“Oh yes,” Sherzer said with a smile when asked if he was taking care of dinner for the team. “They’re eating well tonight.”

According to a Twitter commentator, dinner took place at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar in West Hartford, about five miles from Dunkin ‘Donuts Park, where Scherzer and Rumble Ponies had just beaten Yard Goats. Had the Mets minor leagues been treated to $ 60 New York strips or $ 100 Tomhawk steaks, a great dining experience would have provided Sherzar as a former MLBPA leader and recent signing of a record deal with the Mets.

Sherzer kept his word after a rumble pony pitcher confirmed via Twitter that dinner was good and the team would be taken care of.

“Can confirm,” tweeted Josh Hejka, 25. “Well eaten.”
