Sudirman Cup 2025: China Defeats Japan to Advance to the Final

Sudirman Cup 2025: China the defending champion enthralled the home audience with a resounding 3-0 victory over Japan on Saturday, advancing to the Sudirman Cup final and tying for a record-tying 14th triumph.

Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping the world number two mixed doubles team from China, set the tone in the opening round by defeating Hiroki Midorikawa and Arisa Igarashi 21-11, 21-17. After that, China took a 2-0 lead in the men’s singles when top seed Shi Yuqi defeated eighth-ranked Kodai Naraoka 21-8, 21-16.

In the women’s singles match, Japan displayed tenacity as Akane Yamaguchi, who had defeated Chen Yufei in 21 of her previous 33 meetings, forced the Tokyo Games champion to three games, but Chen remained composed to win 17-21, 21-9, 21-16.

China the 13-time winner of the biannual mixed team championship, will play either South Korea, the four-time champion, or Indonesia, the 1989 champion, in the final. The two teams will play each other in their semifinal match later tonight.
