SCNext Top 25: Revised rankings for girls’ basketball at high school

The weekend schedule of games and activities for Martin Luther King Jr. Day did not let down, even with the bad weather and numerous travel and scheduling conflicts.

Leading Archbishop Mitty defeated two more Californian opponents, and leading Long Island Lutheran defeated Rutgers Prep and Etiwanda twice more. A triple-double of 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists was recorded by USC-bound guard Kayleigh Heckel, while Kate Koval, a recruit from Notre Dame, finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

While Kennedy Smith, a recruit for USC, shot 8 out of 14 from three point range in the two games at the showcase, Etiwanda defeated Sidwell Friends to cap off a successful weekend at Hoophall. Both the victory and the Long Island Lutheran game saw her score 29 points and grab 11 rebounds, respectively. Fresh off a double-double against Sidwell and 10 points and seven rebounds against LUHI, junior Grace Knox is showing signs of health and returning to form. She had a physical imprint on the floor and played with amazing energy the entire weekend.

Sasha Palmer hosted the MLK Classic, which Grayson won handily, 73-56 over IMG Academy. With thirty points, five rebounds, and six assists, Danielle Carnegie, a Georgia Tech signee, was outstanding. Take note of Lara Somfai, an Australian who has recently joined IMG. A 6-foot-4 forward in the 2025 class, she is incredibly skilled.

With a 13-0 record, Minnetonka, a Minnesota team, leads the way and is ranked No. 6 in 2025. Her opponent is Aaliyah Crump. Coach Brian Cosgriff, a former Hopkins assistant, will be overseeing their two games against No. 24 Hopkins in the upcoming month.
