Michigan head coach Juwan Howard throws a punch at the finish of college basketball

Michigan men’s basketball head coach Juwan Howard threw a punch throughout postgame handshakes once his team’s game against Wisconsin on Sunday.

Following the Michigan Wolverines’ 77-63 loss against the Wisconsin Badgers, Howard and Wisconsin’s head coach Greg Gard cask hands, and Howard might be seen saying one thing to Gard.

Gard grabbed Howard together with his manus to prevent the Michigan coach from moving to subsequent person to greet with, that gave the impression to anger Howard.

After defending a couple of moments, the 2 were separated before another Wisconsin assistant began shouting at Howard.

Shortly once, Howard threw a punch towards a member of the Badgers work team, sparking pushing and shoving between each sets of players and employees.

Gard spoke with CBS Sports postgame on the court to clarify his perspective of the dustup.

“Apparently, he did not like that I known as a timeout to reset the 10-second decision as a result of we have a tendency to solely had four seconds to induce the blow out of the water halfcourt,” Gard said. “And I did not need to place my backups, I had all my bench guys within the game, I did not need to place them therein position of scrambling with solely four seconds.

“So I took a timeout and that i got U.S. a replacement ten seconds and helped them get organized and acquire the ball in. He failed to like that once he came through the handshake line, thus i {will} leave it at that and also the tape will show the remainder.”

Howard self-addressed the incident within the postgame press conference: “I did not just like the timeout they known as, i will be wholly honest, i assumed it had been not necessary at that moment, particularly with it being an oversized lead. … i assumed that wasn’t honest to our guys.

“Basically, I addressed with the top coach that i’d remember that as a result of that timeout. for somebody to the touch ME, i believe that was very uncalled for him to the touch me as communicating were verbalizing and communication with each other. thus that is what complete up happening, that is what escalated it.”

University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel free a statement once the top of the sport.

“I am tuned in to and watched the top of our restroom basketball game,” Manuel said. “There isn’t any excuse for any of our staff or student-athletes to induce into a physical altercation with others in spite of instigating factors.

“I reached out and apologized to Chris mcintosh and (Michigan) President (Mary Sue) Coleman has reached resolute UW Chancellor Blank to apologize for the wholly unacceptable behavior. ar going to} review the case additional completely and work with the large 10 Conference as they confirm their disciplinary actions and can confirm if additional disciplinary actions are secure.”
