LB Blake Martinez’s contract reshuffle will return to the Giants in 2022

The New York Giants are expected to have more salary cap casualty in the coming days, but Blake Martinez will not be one of them.

The seventh-year linebacker and team captain has agreed to renew his contract to stay in New York, according to a report by Jordan Schulz.

Martinez had a per capita salary cap of .0 14.025 million in 2022. That would have saved 8.525 million but the Giants had $ 5.5 million in dead money.

The Giants signed Martinez to a three-year deal in 2020 and it quickly became an integral part of their defense. That year he led the team with 151 tackles, 57 more than anyone else on the roster.

Martinez played just three games and recorded 21 tackles before tearing his ACL in 3 defeats in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons.

The announcement came a day after Sterling Shepard re-signed his contract for a team-friendly deal. While veterans still need to free up the pay cap, James Bradberry is the leading candidate for trade or any kind of movement.
