Indonesia Open 2025: An Defeats Wang and Denmark’s Antonsen Wins First Crown

Indonesia Open 2025: Anders Antonsen the third-ranked badminton player in the world defeated Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen on Sunday to win his maiden Indonesia Open title, while An Se-young of South Korea took home her second title in Jakarta.

At the Istora Senayan stadium in the Indonesian capital, the 28-year-old Dane defeated world number seven Chou in a 60-minute match, winning 22-20, 21-14, to earn a spot in the coveted Super 1000 tournament.

Antonsen who had placed second against Tien-chen in 2019 and Shi Yuqi in 2024, finally won the Super 1000 title on his third final appearance. The emotional victory was a long-awaited victory.

The first game began with Tien-chen leading 15-10, but Antonsen rallied to win 22-20. With Antonsen controlling the second game, it was much more one-sided.

Shortly after clinching the win, Antonsen fell flat on his back with his arms extended, the burden of years of tenacity and previous near-misses weighing heavily on him.

An Se-young, the Olympic gold champion, defeated Wang Zhiyi, the number two seed in China, 13-21, 21-19, 21-15. While Wang was vying for her first Indonesia Open title, An, who is currently ranked #1 in the world, had already won her first Indonesia Open in 2021.

Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue, a French mixed doubles team, defeated Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand.
