Queen’s Club hosted the Wimbledon warm-up competition on Sunday, and German qualifier Tatjana Maria declared herself the “Queen of Queen’s” after capturing the biggest title of her career.
After Tatjana Maria of Germany won the women’s final tennis match at The Queen’s Club grass court tennis championships in London, Amanda Anisimova of the United States carries the runner-up trophy.
In the London grass-court final, the 37-year-old mother of two defeated eighth-seeded Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 6-4 to win her maiden WTA 500 championship.
In front of her kids Charlotte and Cecilia, as well as her husband and coach Charles-Edouard Maria, the 86th-ranked Maria emerged victorious.
“It means a lot to me,” Maria said. “I’m a good example that even in my age you still can win big trophies. I’m super proud of myself.”
She defeated four top 20 women, including Madison Keys, Karolina Muchova, and Elena Rybakina, en route to her fourth WTA win. This became her the oldest WTA Tour singles champion since 2020, when Serena Williams, then 38, won the Auckland Classic.
Maria had previously won two clay WTA titles in Bogota in 2022 and 2023, as well as a grass title in Mallorca in 2018.
In the women’s final tennis match at the Queen’s Club grass court tennis championships in London, Amanda Anisimova of the United States is served by Tatjana Maria of Germany.
Maria, a previous semifinals at Wimbledon, will rise to No. 43 in the world rankings on Monday.
