22-year-old kabaddi player dies due to suspected heart attack

On Sunday, July 24, a horrible accident occurred while a player was playing Kabaddi in a stadium in Panruti, Cuddalore district. 22-year-old Vimalraj was a second-year B.Sc. student in zoology at a private university in the Salem area.

According to reports, the child died after what was thought to be a heart attack. Vimalraj, a native of Purangini village near Kadampuliyur in the Cuddalore district, was competing for a team called Murattu Kaalai in the district-level kabaddi competition at Mannadikuppam.

In the video that has come out from the event, it can be seen Vimalraj was entering into the opponents’ court for a raid and he gets stopped by the players on the other side. On the point being given to the opponents, Vimalraj can be seen trying to get up but immediately, collapsed back on the ground.

The youngster was rushed to the Panruti General Hospital on an immediate basis but he was declared ‘brought dead’. Later, he was taken to the Villupuram Medical College and hospital for post-mortem.

Kadampuliyur police have registered a case and are investigating the tragic death of the young athlete.
