Indian Premier League 2019 – DAY 31 – MATCH 40: Rajasthan Royals vs Delhi Capitals- As it happened

Two teams which have done everything. Dress change, name change, players change and Rajasthan Royals went a step ahead to change their captain mid-season. For once this move seemed to work. Ajinkya Rahane, former captain of the Jaipur based franchise scored a ton while opening the innings. Rahane played a complete t-20 knock when the pressure of captaincy was taken away for him. Before this Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first. This decision was taken on the premise that teams have won while chasing at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

RR didn’t had the start that they wanted as Sanju Samson was run out for a golden duck. Steven Smith walked in just in the second over of the game. Smith also scored a fifty in just 31 balls. The swap of captaincy worked for both Smith and Rahane as both of them looked in good touch. They added 130 runs for the second wicket which is the highest second wicket partnership for Rajasthan Royals. Then no other batsman from RR added much to the total. Stokes made 8 runs, Binny added 19 runs while Riyan Parag scored 4 runs. Ashton Turner, the hard-hitting all-rounder from Australia who scored 84 off 43 balls against India in the recently concluded one-day series, is having a nightmare this season. Playing for the first time in the IPL, he is dismissed for three consecutive first ball duck in the three matches that he has played.

RR managed to score 191 at a loss of 6 wickets. A total which was looking like above par but RR was 10-20 runs short because of the way wickets fell in the last five overs.

Both Dhawan and Shaw gave a good start to DC as they scored 59 runs in the powerplay. Dhawan scored yet another 50 and dismissed right after it. His wickets fell in the 8th over. Iyer came in and was dismissed for 4 runs in next over. DC was 78 at a loss of 2 wickets after 9th over. Shaw was the next man to get out but he anchored the innings from the other end very perfectly. He added 84 runs for the third wicket with Rishabh Pant. Pant scored his fifty in just 26 balls and then went on to finish the game with a six.

This has happened second time for Rajasthan Royals this season that one of their players have score a century and the team then lost the game. First it was against Sunrisers Hyderabad where Sanju Samson scored a hundred and now in the last game.

With this win DC is now the table topper. Today Chennai Super Kings will go against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
