Golden Gloves Boxing returns to Monroeville Mall

Golden Gloves Boxing 2 The fists were flying when he returned to Gloria’s gym at Monroville Mall on October 2nd.

Eight bouts weighing 70 pounds to 201 pounds-plus were held for the first time since 2019. It was the first live show at the gym since 2019, with two events canceled in February 2020 due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

The Western Pennsylvania Police let Theletic League hosts Gloria Gym, Butler Cubs Boxing, Third Avenue Boxing, Sanctuary Boxing, Cave Boxing, Gold Medal Boxing, Steel Valley Boxing, Boys Boxing, Boards Boxing and Stallworth Boxing Academy.

“Here at Monroville Mall, with all the people who came to our first show of 2021 this evening after Covid, it was a huge turnout,” said Gloria Stukowski of WPPAL.

“We had great matches. Awesome boxing. He was on top with the kids. Just entering the ring, for a kid, I think they are champions. This is the cathedral. This is where all this happens, where they go to show off their game. ”

Five of the eight fights went on the scorecard. The referee stopped, ending three, including one knockout and two TKOs.

Stukovsky did not give exact figures for attendance, but said it was a capacity crowd.

Michael Williams, who won the first round of the sixth bout at 1:53 p.m., said boxing helped improve his life after facing legal issues in Atlanta.

The 25-year-old said she hopes similar live events will inspire young people to join the sport.

“The most important thing in all of this is to keep the kids on the streets,” Williams said.

“If kids don’t have hope, they can come to the boxing gym and find hope. When I was younger I didn’t have many things. I didn’t have much money. But I had one thing, every time I was in the gym, I had hope. ”

“So, I told the kids one thing, you can do anything. Keep your mind on it and you will be able to do it. Boxing is a big thing for the whole society. ”

Seth Derrick, 20, won the seventh fight by a close decision.

He only started training in the last six months, but he said the game is the primary reason he has been able to overcome anxiety problems.

“I’ve always loved boxing, but I haven’t started recently,” Derrick said.

“I started when I was 1 year old. But for me, my life has really changed from where I was before boxing and where it is now. That has completely changed. I suggest boxing to anyone. ”

The semifinals of the Golden Gloves will be played at the Gloria Gym on October 23 at 6 p.m.

The competition will take place on October 30 at the gym.

“Here at Monroville Mall, we have a really good relationship with them,” Sztukowski said.

“A great evening of amateur boxing by following the USA boxing rules and regulations. Golden Gloves, When you box in Golden Gloves, you really have the right to brag. I consider both boxers, Blue Corner or Red Corner, both champions to keep my foot in the ring. ”
