French Open 2025: Carlos Alcaraz of Spain celebrates defeating Tommy Paul of the United States in the French Tennis Open quarterfinals at the Roland-Garros stadium in Paris. who easily defeated Tommy Paul, the 12th-seeded American, 6-0, 6-1, 6-4.
This year, the second seed has been unable to find his typical brilliant form on Parisian clay, requiring four sets to defeat tenacious opponents. However, on a warm evening at Court Philippe Chatrier, he had little issue.
Alcaraz just needed 52 minutes to win the first two sets because Paul’s right leg was extensively wrapped, making it impossible for him to run, serve, or use groundstrokes with full force. The final scores were 40-13, with the 22-year-old Spaniard amassing a 23-5 lead in winners over that time.
Before finally encountering some opposition in the third set, he sailed across the red clay while unleashing vicious strokes, once thunderously ripping the racket from Paul’s hands.
Up until 4-4, Paul, a former junior French Open winner, was tied with Alcaraz, but he quickly lost the match, and the holder sealed the win.
The World No. 12 stated he had attempted to slow down the match in an attempt to get his opponent to change his pace after spending nearly 11 hours on the court in his previous rounds.
In the third set, the American fought a little, but he struggled with a persistent injury to his abdominal muscles and adductor pain.
After the Italian defeated American Frances Tiafoe in four sets, Alcaraz will play Lorenzo Musetti in the round of four.
